Living outside Uruguay we won’t be able to protest against his policy. For many of us, our absence is the direct consequence of a forced exile due to the dictatorship regimes that happened in Latin America with the support ant the complicity of United States’ governments similar to the present one, or to their economic consequences.
While the region succeeded to reach democracy and independence again, the United States still deploy similar strategies in other regions around the world, revidicaiting their role as the planet’s cop, assimilating to “terrorism” any national resistance struggle, and organizing a generalized citizens’ watching at the cost of their freedom.
We understand that Uruguay, a neutral, pacific and democratic country, establishes diplomatic and trade relationships around the world, but we think that it must prioritize regional integration in Latin America and clearly express its solidarity with peoples who suffer an oppression for which we presently ask for justice in Uruguay.
We support those who in Uruguay are calling to demonstrate, pacifically but firmly, their disapproval of George W. Bush policies and crimes. We hope that a big, noisy and creative demonstration will happen, and we ask our voices to join all the ones who will then ask not to give such honors to those who despise a word of liberty, peace and justice.

[1] “Departamento 20” is how is called the territory of Uruguayans living outside Uruguay’s land, because the country itself has nineteen departments.
